I am Liz Jarman, a
BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist (www.bacp.co.uk). I work within the BACP’s
Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and
I did not become a counsellor until I
was in my early forties, having spent 20 years working in Banking,
Finance and IT. This means that I am able to bring a wealth of life
experience to my counselling work, which I believe is very important for
I currently have a private practice in
Leigh-on-Sea & Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
I worked as a Pupil Support Manager/Counsellor for 7 years in a Special Needs School
& also as a volunteer counsellor at an NHS Mental Health Unit
for 6 years.
I also provide Supervision for other
Counsellors and Student Counsellors.
I currently teach the Level 2 'Certificate in Counselling Skills' and the
Level 4 'Diploma in
Therapeutic Counselling' at a local college.
I also run a number of
Short Courses and Workshops.
I originally trained as a Mathematician
and have a BSC (Hons) degree in Mathematics,
but when I changed my career path to
become a Counsellor, I have gained
the following qualifications since
starting my counselling career.

I believe that
continuing professional development is very important and I regularly
